Various commemorative events are taking place throughout the country today, the first anniverasary of the tragic crash at Madrid’s Barajas airport in which 154 people lost their lives.
At Terminal 2 in Madrid, a Mass took place followed by floral tributes being laid at a memorial at the site of the fatal crash. The memorial, a stone slab, contains a phrase chosen by the families of those who died. Employees of Spanair observed a one minute silence.
Later this evening, a memorial service is being held in Las Palmas cathedral on Gran Canaria.
