Prescription for disaster

A convicted sex offender with a 30 year history of abusing children is still being prescribed the libido enhancing drug Viagra on the NHS.

Roger Martin, now 71, has just been convicted of his latest offence, assaulting an 11 year old girl last December. The girl went to his sheltered accommodation to do some cleaning in exchange for pocket money, but ended up be touched ‘inappropriately’ by the career paedophile.

It is apparently up to the doctor to decide whether or not to prescribe Viagra and a patient is not obliged to disclose any criminal convictions. Even if he does choose to disclose such information, it cannot be used to influence the decision to prescribe drugs.

Naturally, taking all these matters into consideration, Peterborough Crown Court decided to protect society from this individual who has been preying on minors for the past 30 years. Of course they did! Mr Martin escaped a custodial sentence as he would not be able to cope with a spell behind bars.

Instead, he was ordered to attend a sex offenders’ treatment programme and banned from having contact with children. That’ll work, especially if he keeps on picking up his prescription!

If his crimes had been more serious, like turning on a light, they probably would have locked him up and thrown away the key.
