Real off to winning start

Cristiano Ronaldo, one of eight summer signings by Real Madrid, scored on his La Liga debut as Real beat Deportivo la Coruña 3-2.

Raul started the ball rolling, putting Real ahead but his goal was then cancelled out after Riki found the net. Ronaldo put Real back in front on 35 minutes from the penalty spot after Raul was fouled by Aranzubia.

Juan Carlos Valeron equalised for Deportivo but then, on the hour, Diarra scored what turned out to be the winning goal.

Real made a bit of a shaky, disjointed start to the game but began to settle a bit as the time went on and could, and should, have scored a couple more, squandering several good chances.

Real spent in the region of €250 million during the summer recess, bringing in a host of star players, it’s now a matter of trying to make them gel as a team.
