New species discovered in Papua New Guinea

Amazing to think that we are still discovering new species of animals on our own planet. A BBC team exploring a remote volcano in Papua New Guinea has come across, amongst other things, a giant woolly rat, fanged frogs and a grunting fish.

The rat, which is the size of a cat, has probably had no previous contact with humans and is, therefore, unafraid and even friendly…..video….

Some 40 new species of animals were discovered on a remote volcanic island and are being featured in a new BBC wildlife series….some great pictures….

And as someone comments, how long before these magnificent exotic creatures become hunted or make the ‘pets wanted’ list?
