Council remains sceptical over sewage plant

The Nerja Council remains sceptical about continued announcements that work on the new (first and only!) sewage plant will begin before the end of 2010.

Although hoping that this time it will actually happen, the Council points out that they have heard the same speech from the PSOE in Málaga in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009. They liken the letters from the Málaga authorities on this subject to letters sent to Santa Claus.

The project has a total budget of €37,2 million, but the amount set aside for starting the project is €1.6 million, a figure the Council believe is totally inadequate. The Council doubt that the project will even be put out to tender next year, let alone started.

In the meantime, the Council has put forward two proposals relating to the plant, neither of which add to the total budget. These relate to technical improvements in tertiary treatment to increase demineralisation and allow the water to be used for irrigation and for a larger ‘buffer’.

The Council would like to see these proposals added to the project specifications before the contract is put out to tender.
