Lorca family request that remains not be removed

The family of Federico Garcia Lorca have requested the right to be the ones who identify the remains of the poet if the mass Civil War grave is opened.

Lorca is thought to be buried in a mass grave alongside Francisco Galadí, Joaquín Arcollas and teacher Dióscoro Galindo. All were executed by Franco forces in 1936.

The family is also requesting that, if or when the grave is opened up, that the remains of Lorca not be removed from the burial site. They would like to see the land in the area between the villages of Víznar and Alfacar be approved for burials so that the many victims thought to be interred there can rest in peace.

It is thought that thousands of victims of the Franco regime could be buried in unmarked or mass graves in the area.
