Two incidents, a fire and the collapse of a building, have claimed at least 6 lives in Palma de Mallorca during the night.
The fire occurred in calle Cuba in Palma just after midnight, with two people killed and several others injured.
Four people died and several others are still trapped after a building at the junction of calle Rodríguez Arias and calle Alós collapsed. Four familes lived in the building and up to nine people could be trapped in the rubble.
The exact cause of the collapse is not yet known but there are reports of an explosion shortly before the collapse, possibly caused by a gas leak. Firefighters are searching the rubble for survivors.
It is also reported that the building was in poor condition.
