New Mercado del Carmen in Huelva opens tomorrow

Today is the inauguration of the new Mercado del Carmen in Huelva, the old market having been’retired’ after 144 years of faithful service. The new market will be open to the public as from tomorrow, Tuesday February 9th.

The Mercado del Carmen opened in 1866 when the population of Huelva was around 8,800 inhabitants. It now has approximately 145,000 inhabitants.

The new market, with 700 parking places, sees a food area covering 30,000 square metres, of which 5,900 are related to sales.

There are 189 stalls: 61 fish, 49 meat, 46 fruit and vegetables and 33 others including breads, pastries, tobacco and flowers. There is a cafeteria, nine underground entrances and loading and unloading areas.
