Demolition order for mobile antenna

Vélez-Málaga Council has ordered the demolition of a mobile telephone base station in Cortijada Los Pérez in Benajarafe after Vodafone España failed to carry out the demolition of an illegal antenna.

The antenna was erected in 1995 but is on rural land and in November 2009,Vodafone España were given 15 days to resolve the situation or remove the antenna from its site near Torre Moya.

Nothing happened, however, and the Council is now ordering the demolition, although it could be three or four months before this can be carried out due to the various legal and administrative provedures involved.

Residents in Cortijada Los Pérez have long blamed the antenna for the incidence of 43 cases of cancer within the population of just 350 people in the area.
