Torrox building works at a standstill

The building works at Ferrara Playa in Torrox Costa and on the road through the centre of Torrox Pueblo have been at a standstill for more than a week due to a dispute over the non-payment of wages between the contractor CHM and the sub-contractor EISUR.

The Mayor of Torrox, Toñi Claros (IU), has been meeting with both parties to try and resolve the situation and, if possible, get work started again by the end of this week.

These projects are financed under the FEIL (Plan Zapatero) and the deadline for completion is March 31st 2010. Work on the remodelling of Ferrara Playa is in its final stages and could still be finished on time.

Work on the Plaza de la Constitución is the responsibility of the Junta de Andalucia as they are providing €1,427,000 of the funding compared to €400,000 by the Council. However, it is hoped that these works can also be completed by March 31st, the completion period already having been extended by three months.
