Wire thefts in Alhaurin de la Torre

In just one week, thieves have stolen around 5,700 metres of cabling in and around Alhaurin de la Torre with the thieves, in some cases, carrying out their raids in broad daylight.

The thieves have avoided the main historical centre, preferring to concentrate on areas such as La Alquería, El Romeral, Torrealquería and the new Taralpe urbanisation.

In some cases, the thieves have been dressed as official workmen to allay suspicion as they calmly go about the business of cutting the telephone and electrical cables and then removing them. It is not only then a costly exercise to replace the cabling, stolen for its copper wiring, but it leaves areas without power or telephones for several hours while repairs are carried out.

The theft of cabling for its copper wire has been fairly commonplace throughout Málaga province since 2006 and has so far cost the municipality of Alhaurin de la Torre around €125,000.
