Swimming for a good cause

A group of eight swimmers are crossing the straits of Gibraltar between Tarifa and Punta Cires (Morocco), not illegal immigrants this time but to raise money for the Asociación  Española de Afectados por Linfoma, Mieloma y Leucemia (AEAL) – Spanish Association of People Affected by Lymphoma, Myeloma and Leukemia.

The eight non-professional swimmers, aged between 29 years and 46 years and from different backgrounds, have been training specifically for this event for eleven months. One of the group only learned to swim two years ago.

The distance being covered is 18 kilometres and the completion time is expected to be between 4 and 6 hours. GPS tracking means you can monitor their progress in real-time and the group have set up a Facebook and Twitter account for messages.
