More boats intercepted in the Straits of Gibraltar

Two more small boats carrying illegal immigrants have been intercepted in the Straits of Gibraltar and Moroccan Gendarmes are searching for a third boat sighted in the waters near Tangier. On Saturday, one small boat capsized in the Straits with two people killed and two missing, and on Monday another boat sank with five people reported missing.

The changing weather conditions and continuing economic woes of Spain do not seem to be deterring migrants from the African continent from trying to sneak into the country via the back door, another two boats being intercepted in the Straits of Gibraltar.

Immigrants arriving in toy boats

Twenty illegal immigrants, including children, travelling on board a small flotilla of toy boats were located this morning in the middle of the Straits of Gibraltar. The Guardia Civil is still searching for at least two more toy boats with around ten people on board.

A morning for small boats

In a little over an hour this morning, three small dinghies were intercepted in the Straits of Gibraltar with a total of nine illegal immigrants on board.

Swimming for a good cause

A group of eight swimmers are crossing the straits of Gibraltar between Tarifa and Punta Cires (Morocco), not illegal immigrants this time but to raise money for the Asociación  Española de Afectados por Linfoma, Mieloma y Leucemia (AEAL) – Spanish Association of People Affected by Lymphoma, Myeloma and Leukemia.

Six sub-Saharan gentlefolk traveling in a plastic boat were intercepted and rescued by the Maritime Service in the Straits of Gibraltar. They were taken to Tarifa where, after being checked by the Red Cross, they are now in the capable hands of the Comisaría de Algeciras.

Guardia Civil officers from Ceuta have rescued three sub-Saharans who were drifting around in a small rubber dinghy in the Straits of Gibraltar. The small craft was spotted by one of the ferries traveling between Ceuta and Algeciras and the captain notified the authorities.
