An Ertzaintza officer in Vitoria has been arrested and charged with assaulting his girlfriend and shooting at fellow officers when they visited his home.
On Friday night, a woman was assaulted at a family residence and fled to the Guardia Civil barracks in the Sansomendi district of Vitoria to seek refuge. After she explained what had happened, officers were sent to the home of her boyfriend, a 37 year old Ertzaintza officer.
Arriving at the house, the officers were greeted by a hail of bullets and they returned fire. No-one was actually injured in the exchange of gunfire and the alleged assailant was eventually detained. He has been charged with assaulting his girlfriend and shooting at fellow officers.
