Exodus weekend

The end of summer DGT traffic campaign has started and will continue until Tuesday evening, during which time 4.3 million motorists are expected to take to the roads in Spain.

In Andalucia, some 870,000 vehicles are anticipated to be making their way here, there and everywhere as the summer vacations come to an end and people return to their homes, and work.

The DGT have launched an information campaign warning motorists about distractions while driving, these apparently being the main cause of accidents this summer.

Smoking at the wheel, changing CD’s, fiddling with GPS devices and jabbering on the phone are all considered to be dangerous pastimes and to be avoided.

A second DGT campaign relates to speed control and awareness while on the road.

The busiest time on the roads in Andalucia is epected to be on Sunday between 17:00 and 23:00. There will be 1,800 Guardia Civil officers, four surveillance helicopters and numerous other individuals involved in monitoring the situation on the roads.
