Statistics on divorces, separations and annulments for the year 2009, prepared by the Statistical Institute of Andalucia, show that the number of divorces in the region went down by11.6%.
In 86.6% of the cases, custody of minors was given to the mother, the father getting custody in only 4.6% of cases. Sevilla (-14.1%) and Malaga (-13.8%) were the provinces where the number of divorces decreased the most.
There were 17,500 divorces, 1,600 separations and 23 annulments in 2009. Divorces tended to be after about two years of marriage, separations after about seven years of cohabitation.
