Police in Sevilla have arrested 37 year old Issam M, a Moroccan national, in connection with the killing yesterday of a woman at her home in calle Luis Cadarso in the Macarena district of the city.
The woman, 39 year old Carmen J, was found in a pool of blood at her home on Wednesday, her throat having been cut by the assailant.
It was a former boyfriend of Carmen who alerted the police to the possibility that something may have happened. Isidro Sacristán, who had lived with Carmen for fourteen years, was apparently in a local bar when he saw the alleged assailant Issam M.
According to Isidro Sacristán, Issam M. made a gesture across his throat with his finger which Sacristán took as a threat and he called the police.
Carmen J. is the 59th woman to be killed by a current or former partner in Spain so far this year.
In this case, Carmen had apparently suffered some sort of prior abuse at the hands of her partner but had never made an official complaint.
