Electricity problems in Frigiliana

Three years after the issuing of a licence of first occupation for edificio Residencial El Mirador in calle Portón, Frigiliana, the 22 apartment owners still have no electricity metres installed.

In addition, the electricity supply is still the original builders’ supply and only authorised for a well.

The houses all have electricity, but it is all on the one meter, and this means agreeing upon usage and subsequently dividing up the charge each month between the 22 premises.

The builder had initially assumed responsibility for paying Sevillana-Endesa but, a few months ago, the bills started to be returned marked ‘unpaid’, the builder claiming that he was now bankrupt as a result of the economic crisis.

The residents have now had to assume responsibility for paying the bills.

The cost of completing the electrical wiring and installation of the metres is estimated at €70,000 and with the builder claiming inability to pay through insolvency, the residents have been trying to seek help from the Council before resorting to taking legal action.

The licence of first occupation was reportedly issued without the meters having been installed because the builder had assured the Council that this would be completed within a matter of days.

It is also reported that the builder also still owes money to the Council.
