64 illegal immigrants intercepted off the Granada coast

A boat carrying 64 illegal immigrants, five of them babies, was intercepted off the coast of Granada on Friday afternnon.

After a phone call warning that a boat had set off from somewhere between Nador and Al Hoceima in Morocco and was heading for Spain, the authorities launched a search for the vessel.

Two Marine Rescue boats and a plane were involved in the search and the immigrants were eventually located about 27 miles south of Motril.

All the occupants were in apparent good health and are now in Motril awaiting further processing.
