Mugardos accepting pesetas

In an attempt help lift the town out of its economic slump, over 60 shops in in the Galician fishing town in Mugardos are once again accepting the peseta in payment for all purchases, alongside the euro of course. Similar schemes have occurred in other places in the past, Almeria being one. An estimated €1.7 billion in cash was unaccounted for when Spain converted to the euro in 2002.
