Police search moves to Galicia

Police are now searching in Galicia for the parents who allegedly killed their two-year-old child, the body having been discovered at a railway stop just outside Oviedo.

Cocaine shipment seized in Galicia

National Police have arrested four people and seized 103 kilos of cocaine hidden inside a shipment of bananas from Colombia which had arrived at the port of Marin, Galicia.

Two major forest fires still active in Galicia

Two forest fires remain active, one on Monte Pindo in Carnota in A. Coruña which has already destroyed 1,900 hectares of land, and a second in the Vincios of Gondomar in Pontevedra.

Train driver arrested

As the country mourns, Francisco José Garzón, the driver of the Alvia train which derailed in Galicia killing 78 people, has been arrested by police and charged with negligence and crimes related to the accident.

One dead and another injured after boat capsizes

One man died and another was injured this morning after a boat capsized in the Ría de  Muros, Galicia. The injured man was taken to the Hospital Clínico in Santiago de Compostela. It is thought the boat, with five crew on board, could have hit a trough causing it to capsize.

Galicia burning

Forest fires in Galicia during the past few days, particularly in Ourense, have so far burned around 6,000 hectares of land. Unusually high temperatures have not helped and over 400 fires have been reported since last Friday with 90% thought to have been ‘provoked’.

The Ministry of Rural Affairs has reported that two active fires in Ourense (Galicia) have now each destroyed over 500 hectares of land and are therefore classified as ‘big forest fires’.
