State firearm for Utah

Utah has a state fossil, allosaurus, a state fruit, cherry, a state gem, topaz, a state bird, the sea gull, and now becomes the first US state to designate an official state firearm, the Browning M1911.

The gun was designed John Browning, a native of Utah, and was adopted by the US army in 1911. The law’s sponsor say it symbolises freedom and empowerment. Opponents, however, say it is inappropriate to glorify a firearm.
