Two young girls, aged 16 years and 17 years, from Alsasua in Navarra died last night after being hit by a train in Olazaguti.
The accident occurred just after 11pm near the Portland Cement factory in Olazaguti. A group of eight people, attending the local carnival, were heading from Alsasua to neighbouring Olazaguti.
The shortest route between these two places is via the railway tracks. First indications are that the driver did not see the group of youths in time to brake and stop the train.
