The seventh biennial Sports Awards Gala took place at the Nerja Cultural Centre on Friday, rewarding the most successful athletes of 2009 and 2010.
Among those attending the event were the Mayor of Nerja, José Alberto Armijo, the Councillor for Sports, Andrés Márquez, the Provincial Delegate for Tourism, Commerce and Sport of the Junta de Andalucía, Antonio Souvirón and the president of the Municipal Council of Sports, Enrique López Cuenca.
And the lucky winners were:
- Best Male Athlete – Francisco Miguel Aguilera Jiménez (Jet ski rider)
- Best Female Athlete – Isabel Sánchez Jiménez
- Most Promising Male Athlete – Ángel Antequera Antequera
- Most Promising Female Athlete – Andrea Figueroa Armijo
- Best Foreign Athlete in a Local Team – Esther Hidalgo García
- Outstanding Person or Entity in Local Sports – Raúl López Martín for his work in athletics and other sporting activities for adults.
- Best Club or Team – Recreativo Nerja
- Best Local Sports Patron – Unicaja Bank
- Sport Health Award – Francisco González Sánchez of Clínica Nerja
- Local Sports Legend – María Rico García, known popularly as ‘Mimi’
Tribute was paid to local athlete Miguel Prados who died recently and his family were presented with a Special Prize by Enrique López Cuenca and José Alberto Armijo.
