Nine arrested in Almeria in connection with cable thefts

Police in Almeria have arrested a total of nine people in the past couple of weeks in connection with the theft of various sorts of cable, such as electricity and telephone.

A crackdown on such thefts has involved monitoring scrapyards and recycling plants and during the operation, codenamed ‘Sacata’, police have seized 58 metres of power cables, five reels of copper cable, 75 metres of communication cable, telephone and electricity wiring.

In addition, they have also recovered 30 metres of highway safety barriers and four galvanised steel doors.

Police have been warning people that the theft of copper wire can cause serious injury or death to those commiting the crime.
