The Peña El Palustre in Torrox has decided to suspend its singing contest ‘La Copla en mi Voz’, the preliminary rounds of which were due to start on July 8th, after the new socialist Council decided to withdraw financial assistance for the event.
Preparations for the event are well advanced, with entries from all over Andalucia. The president of the Peña, Antonio Ramos Balboteo, stated that a request for financial assistance, forthcoming in previous years, was rejected this week.
The new mayor of Torrox, Francisco Muñoz, is reported as saying that such requests for assistance should be made much earlier, adding that the new Council could not locate any paperwork relating to previous grants for the event.
