The importance of social networks in the job market

A twin survey by the professional social network Viadeo on the labour market situation in Andalucia shows that 52% of Andalucians are seeking employment via social networks and that 64% of executives take into account the social profiles of prospective employees.

The study also shows that 46% of out of work Andalucians spend more than a year in the search for employment. A lack of experience and training, exaggerated CV’s, poor appearance and inappropriate attitude are the main obstacles to success at the interview stage.

The study also showed that 64% of executives checked the profiles of prospective candidates for jobs and 30% would even go so far as ruling out a candidate for either not having a social profile or, if they do have one, for not updating it regularly.

Human Resources managers view a simple but well presented CV, knowledge of the company and originality in the presentation of an application or use of social networks for promotion to be important factors when deciding who to interview for a particular job.
