Fire at Iberostar hotel in Torrox Costa

Around one hundred tourists had to be evacuated from their rooms at the Iberostar hotel (formerly the RIU) in Torrox Costa on Friday morning after fire broke out in one of the storage rooms.

The fire was noticed at 01:15 on Friday morning and the occupants were allowed to return to their rooms at 04:30. No-one was injured during the incident.

The hotel is one of the largest in the Axarquia with over 400 rooms and has a four star rating. It was inaugurated in 2003 and until last June formed part of the RIU chain. It is now operated by Iberostar.
