There have been all sorts of rumours about the Nerja Feria moving to a new site on the Rio Chillar riverbed but, although such a move has been long proposed, no such site yet exists and this year’s feria will be taking place in its regular location, Los Huertos de Carabeo.
Even if a new site existed, it would probably be on land classified under the PGOU, LOUA, POTA, POTAX and various other acronyms as solely suitable for Burmese clog dancing classes if some recent projects are anything to go by.
The Feria will take place from October 8th to 12th and patrons of the Los Huertos car park, of which there are very few these days, will be asked to remove their vehicles at the end of September.
After the feria, local residents who have been paying €7 per month for parking will see the cost of parking rise to €40 per month.
There are as yet unconfirmed rumours that some local residents applying for the reduced tariffs are being told that there are no more resident spaces available, despite the car park only ever being about 10% utilised these days.
There are also unconfirmed rumours that the Los Huertos de Carabeo plot is no longer privately owned but has been ‘taken over’ by a bank. If such a situation has occurred, it would presumably make it far easier for the land to end up in municipal hands and possibly allow for the construction of new, long rumoured, municipal offices.
But these are just all rumours, and we all know full well how accurate these Nerja Whispers can be.
John says:
We no longer visit Nerja since they have made it so difficult to park as we used to stay for a few months at a time, and drove from UK. Streets are too congested now. Businesses suffer. Why?
