The VII Seabed Cleaning operation takes place on Sunday October 2nd with around 30 divers taking part.
From around 09;30, divers will operate in shifts at Barranco de Maro, in front of the Balcón de Europa and at El Playazo, the divers being submerged for about forty minutes at a time as they attempt to gather up the rubbish deposited by the careless and uncaring in society.
The event is under the supervision of Bernabé Toledo from Costa Buceo Nerja with the collaboration of the merenderos on Burriana beach and the Town Hall.
All the rubbish collected throughout the day will be transferred to Burriana beach and put into containers – and no doubt counted and weighed as well! The very first such event saw 400 kilos of rubbish collected from the seabed, while the total for last year was only 50 kilos.
Divers from Costa Buceo Nerja are generally involved with clearing items of rubbish from the seabed almost on a daily basis according to Bernabé Toledo.
