Barcelona defeated Sporting Gijón 0-1 on Sunday evening to take over at the top of La Liga after had earlier Levante briefly deposed Málaga. Adriano scored the only goal of the match early in the first half.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid put four past Espanyol, winning the match 0-4 and in doing so climbed up to third in the table behind Barcelona and Levante. Higuaín grabbed a hat-trick and Callejón scored the fourth as Real cruised to victory.
