A Senegalese man, in the country illegally, has confessed to killing his 35 year old Italian girlfriend on the island of Lanzarote on Wednesday.
The killing took place in Puerto del Carmen in the municipality of Tías and is the first domestic violence fatality on the island for four years.
The alleged killer handed himself in to the Guardia Civil and confessed to killing his girlfriend. The authorities are currently unaware of any prior complaints of domestic abuse or violence and no restraining order was in place.
The deceased woman was the mother of a two year old child who has now been taken into care by Social Services.
