Outrageous…

Plaza de España, NerjaOutrageous….£154.07 to renew a passport!! Meanwhile, Plaza España has been in use for several years now and is often officially described as ’emblematic’. Mmm. After all this time there is the Hotel Mena in the bottom left corner, a closed Museum in the top left corner and maybe three apartments sold or rented.

There must be between 50 and 100 empty locales, depending upon the size, and at least 50 empty apartments. Yet still all the talk is of building more and more houses, apartments and locales.

Hardly emblematic. There are empty buildings all over the place, some never occupied since they were built many, many years ago. Not so important for the municipal authorities, of course, as they have already made their money on the projects.

Empty buildings are better than no buildings for the municipal coffers and it is the same situation all over. There is much talk of the proposed 7 star hotel in Almuñecar when 5 star hotels are going bankrupt all along the coast.

The talk is that the hotel itself is not really important, irrelevant even, as it is only a small part of the project, the main part being houses and locales. More money for the municipality, more future eyesores as they lay empty.

However, while municipalities remain dependent upon building projects for the bulk of their revenue the situation is not going to change.
