Cave paintings could be oldest in Europe

An analysis of organic remains found near the prehistoric paintings in the Nerja Caves has determined that these artistic representations may be more than 40,000 years old, which would make them the oldest known so far in Europe.

Samples of organic materials from the upper levels of the caves were sent to the US for analysis and dating and the results indicate an age in excess of 40,000 years.
