Parents arrested for ‘grounding’ their daughter

A couple have been arrested in Baeza, Jaén province, for the alleged illegal detention of their 16 year old daughter after they ‘grounded’ her on February 28th.

The father stopped his daughter from going out on February 28th, a reprimand for her behaviour. This is, of course, an age old and common ‘punishment’ used within families.

However, the daughter denounced her parents for this action. The complaint was passed to the judicial authorities and Juvenile Prosecutor to decide whether the action violated the integrity of a citizen who has not yet attained the age of majority.

It was decided that, under the Penal Code, the action was possibly criminal conduct that went against the family duty to protect a minor and went to see the father. The father was then arrested. The mother, who did not oppose the ‘grounding’ decision, was then arrested as an accomplice.

  1. Lynne Hanson says:

This is totally ludicrous. How are parents supposed to discipline their children then?

  2. The Captain says:

Agreed. There must be more to it than has been released to the public.
