Plans by Vélez-Málaga Council to suspend the tram service between Vélez and Torre del Mar have once again been put on hold, this time until ‘ a reasonable time’ after the elections in Andalucia to allow for discussions with the (expected) new administration regarding subsidisation.
The Council has already taken steps to replace the loss making tram system with extra buses but keeps postponing a final decision in the hope that a solution, namely a subsidy, can be found.
The tram system closed 2011 with a deficit of €2.2 million, mostly due to the continuing fall in passenger numbers.
