21 consecutive months of decline

The number of new mortgages signed during January was 41.3% down on the same month last year, the twenty-first consecutive month of decline on an interannual basis.

The number of new mortgages in January 2012 was, however, an 18.2% increase over December 2011 with 29,167 contracts signed. The average mortgage value was €107,217, down 9.5% on the previous year but up 3.2% on December 2011.
