Easter prisoner release tradition continues

On Easter Sunday, April 8th, the Brotherhood of Jesús Resucitado y María Santísima de la Asunción in collaboration with the Prison Ministry will once again arrange the for release of a prisoner, a tradition which began in Nerja eight years ago and has so far seen ten inmates released back into society.

In contrast to previous years, the prisoner in question was not at the press conference announcing the ‘pardon’ and his name, town of origin and crimes committed have not yet been released as he is currently serving his sentence as a ‘category 2’ prisoner. Previous releases have involved ‘category 3’ prisoners.

The prisoners released tend to be from the Nerja area but this is not a requirement.
