Hotel occupancy in Andalucia during the first part of Holy Week, particularly in coastal areas, has been disappointingly low at around 55% with many people apparently changing their Easter holiday plans due to the weather.
The bulk of tourists at this time of year are domestic, and bad weather and the continuing economic crisis have conspired against the region.
Initial estimates were for 80% occupancy rates in many areas but these are unlikely to be achieved, although a large number of people are apparently leaving destination decisions until the last minute. What is now more realistically anticipated is a 70% occupancy rate during the latter part of the celebrations, particularly on Easter Sunday.
