After holding further meetings, municipal workers in Jerez de la Frontera have decided to continue their protests against the lay-offs announced by the Council on Friday.
The Council announced on Friday that 390 workers were to be laid off, 300 municipal workers and 90 from municipal companies. Jerez, after Madrid, is the municipality with the most debts to suppliers.
On Tuesday, the protesters blocked access to the Town hall to try and stop any work being carried out.
Also on Tuesday, the Council made another partial payment of €1,000 towards the outstanding wages of municipal workers and promised another payment shortly. Workers at Onda Jerez, however, received nothing towards their outstanding wages.
