The Minister of Industry, Energy and Tourism, José Manuel Soria, was one of the many dignitaries attending the annual ceremony yesterday to officially award the ‘Q’ for ‘Quality’ flags to 174 Spanish beaches, including Burriana and Torrecilla in Nerja.
Burriana is considered one of the top five beaches in Spain and has received the ‘Q’ award for the past eight years.
The ‘Q’ award relates to the available facilities and management of beaches and sporting installations and is the responsibility of the Institute of Quality Tourism. UNE (ISO)187001 identifies the requirements to be met in order to qualify for inclusion in the Management System for the Public Use of Beaches.
The Institute of Quality Tourism is a private certification agency made up of the most important tourist business organisations in the country with the participation of the Ministry of Tourism, the regional authorities and the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces.
