Death of elderly woman in Marbella may not have been an accident

The death of a 73 year old woman whose body was discovered after a fire at her home in Marbella may not have been an accident as was first thought.

The fire occurred in a ground floor home in urbanisation La Hacienda de Nagüeles in avenida Alfonso de Hohenlohe where Ana AA lived with her husband. It was the husband who raised the alarm after returning from doing errands to find smoke in the house.

Ana AA was found in the bedroom and it was initially thought that the cause of the blaze could have been the electric blanket she used to alleviate the pain she was suffering due to her illness.

However, an autopsy revealed that Ana had received several stab wounds prior to the fire and these could have been the cause of death. In addition, and also pointing towards the commission of a crime, was the discovery of accelerants in the area where the fire began, suggesting that the fire may not have been accidental but intentional.

The investigation is continuing.
