It is fiesta time again in Nerja with the Fiesta of the Virgen del Carmen, patron saint of seamen, and a number of events will be taking place over the next three days.
Saturday July 14th: At 19:00 there will be a floral tribute to the Virgen at the iglesia El Salvador on the Balcón de Europa with the participation of the choir ‘El Sarao’.
Sunday July 15th: At 22:00 there will be music by ‘Duo Compass’ in Plaza fabrica de los Cangrejos.
Monday July 16th: At 18:00 there will be a Mass in honour of the Virgen del Carmen sung by the ‘Peña Nerjeña’ choir at the iglesia El Salvador on the Balcón de Europa.
After the religious ceremony there will be further events outside the church including performances by the Municipal Association of Folk Singers and Dancers and the Peña Nerjeña choir.
The statue of the Virgen del Carmen will then be carried through the streets down to Torrecilla beach where she will be placed on board a fishing boat and transported to Calahonda beach.
Upon arrival at Calahonda beach there will be a firework display followed by celebrations on the Balcón de Europa.
