DGT crackdown on seatbelt use

Monday morning sees the start of a DGT crackdown on the wearing of seatbelts and the correct use of car seats for children, the campaign designed to coincide with the return to school of nearly one million children in Andalucia.

According to the DGT, 23% of those who died in road traffic accidents during the summer were not wearing seatbelts. In addition, half of children under the age of twelve years who died in road traffic accidents in July and August were not using the obligatory child seats or fastenings.

A total of 6 children under the age of twelve years died in accidents in July and August according to the DGT website.

Seatbelts are compulsory, even in taxis.
