Meeting to discuss the Nerja Fire Station project

It is nine years since Nerja became a member of the Provincial Fire Consortium (CPB) and three years since it was decided to build a proper Fire Station in Nerja to be funded by the Málaga Provincial government.

The local Fire Brigade moved to temporary accommodations by the Burriana roundabout, which is where they still remain today.

The land for the new Fire Station, on the Frigiliana road, has all the necessary documentation and, for once, is correctly classified for the use for which it is intended. The problem is that the Junta de Andalucia has not fulfilled its part of the agreement by supplying the necessary €1.2 million funding to the Provincial Government.

The funding was part of the Fire Master Plan signed by the provincial and regional authorities.

A meeting is due to take place on September 25th between representatives of the Provincial Fire Consortium, Málaga Provincial Government and the delegate for the Junta de Andalucia in order to try and ‘unlock’ the project. The Mayor of Nerja, José Alberto Armijo, will also be attending the meeting.

Regardless of the outcome of this meeting, a suggestion has been put forward to move materials from the Benhavis Fire Station, which is being dismantled due to Marbella taking over the firefighting duties, to the temporary Fire Station in Nerja. These materials include a gymnasium and sufficient accommodation for 15 firemen.
