Council and AEN looking at ways to boost trade over the Christmas period

Members of the Council and representatives of the Association of Employers (AEN) have been meeting to discuss ideas for boosting trade in the town over the Christmas period. Ideas put forward include the decorating of building facades, erection of banners, the holding of various contests and the possibility for shops in pedestrianised areas being allowed to sell discounted goods on stalls outside their premises.

The Council is also considering holding another ‘opportunities fair’ but are holding back on that one at the moment until the Junta de Andalucia makes a definitive decision relating to a fine imposed for holding a similar fair last year.

  1. Tony Slade says:

There is one obvious way to boost trade and that is to try and enter an agreement with the owners of the Los Huertos Car park – similar to the agreement at the main Malaga Railway station.
The agreement is that once you spend a certain amount of money at any of the designated shops, you beome entitled to 2 hours free parking. Consideration could be given to extending it to designated restaurants where 3 hours free parking could be obtained by buying meals there, say after 7pm.

  2. The Captain says:

Good idea. And why not also deals relating to the Municipal Car Park, much easier to arrange. It certainly needs a bit more creative thinking rather than the same old ‘decorate the building and shove up a few posters and banners’.

  3. We have stopped driving to Nerja as two months parking at a time is hugely expensive in the car park, and often non-existent in the surrounding streets. As we have a place near the entrance to the car park it has made it impossible now. Pity, as we used to spend a lot of time in surrounding bars and restaurants during our long stays in Nerja until the parking became such a problem.
