Iberia unions call for strikes in February

Unions representing Iberia ground staff and cabin crew have called for at least five days of strikes during February after breaking off negotiations with management over the restructuring plans for the airline.

The call came on the same day as the deadline for agreement set by IAG, the parent company of the merged Iberia and British Airways airlines, The unions, CCOO, UGT, USO, CTA Vuelo, Sitcpla and Asetma – will return to the arbitration service SIMA to try and resolve the situation.

The restructuring plan is an attempt by IAG to reverse the fortunes of Iberia which currently makes huge operating losses and the plans involve thousands of job losses.
