A lightning strike in the early hours of Thursday morning caused damage to the bell tower of the Nuestra Señora de Flores church in Álora, necessitating the cordoning off of the area while technicians examined the extent of the damage.
The church was hit at 04:30, the noise rousing most of the inhabitants of the town. No-one was injured in the incident but the strike opened up a large crack in the bell tower, damaged the belfry and knocked out the lighting.
