A 37 year old Romanian woman in Lugo has become the eleventh victim of domestic violence so far this year in Spain after she was attacked with an axe.
The incident occurred at around noon on Friday at a house in the A Milagrosa district of Lugo. The woman suffered injuries to her head and her screams alerted neighbours who called the police.
Local Police arrived on the scene to find the victim in a pool of blood and, seeing the seriousness of the incident, informed the National Police. An ambulance and medics arrived and the woman was eventually transferred to the Hospital Universitario Lucus Augusti. Unfortunately she died from her wounds.
The husband, a 43 year old Rumanian national, has been arrested as the alleged perpetrator of the attack. There were apparently no prior complaints of abuse.
