There has apparently been an increase in thefts of replica display phones from mobile phone shops in Málaga, with some shops now reducing the number of items on display.
The thieves steal the display replicas and then go to another shop and ask for a demonstration of that particular model. At some point they pull off the old switcheroo and quickly depart with a real phone, leaving the replica behind.
Some of the replicas have even been sold on the internet to unsuspecting buyers. Presumably, though, there will be more diligence in the shops now that the scam has been widely reported.
